Where we serve

New Bern and the Craven County communities around it, including Havelock, Trent Woods, Vanceboro, James City, Brices Creek, Jones County, and Pamlico County.

The area at a glance

New Bern, Havelock, and Vanceboro each run their own sewer system, and Trent Woods is served by New Bern. Unincorporated communities like James City and Brices Creek don’t have town sewer, and homes across rural Craven, Jones, and Pamlico counties depend on their own septic tanks and drain fields.

Septic permits come from each county’s environmental health office: Craven in New Bern, Jones in Trenton, and Pamlico in Bayboro. See our permits page for contacts.

The Neuse and Trent rivers shape the whole area. Coastal plain soils hold water, the water table rises in late winter and spring, and hurricanes like Florence in 2018 have flooded low ground. All of that makes regular pumping and a healthy drain field matter here.
